5 Best Attackers In The ISL

Sunil Chettri

The first name that comes to a person’s mouth whenever the present Indian football team is discussed, is certainly Sunil Chettri. Captain of both the Indian National Team as well as the squad at Bengaluru FC, he certainly has a strong presence in any team he plays in. Often known as “Captain Fantastic”, he is only behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the list for the most goals scored by a player for his country, with 72 goals in 113 appearances.

The ISL has been no different for this little magician. He has found the back of the net an astounding 30 times in the little time he has been in the league. He stands only behind Ferran Corominas of FC Goa in the list of all-time top goal-scorers of the league. Chettri currently plays for Bengaluru FC and has had previous stints with Mumbai City FC. He bagged the title of “Hero Of The League” for the 2017-18 season and the league title with his club in the 2018-19 season. Bengaluru FC are defending champions this season and it will be fun to see how Sunil Chettri leads his club.

Ferran Corominas

More popularly known as Coro, Ferran Corominas is a Spanish footballer who plays for FC Goa in the ISL. Already a big name in world football, Coro has won the 2006 Copa Del Ray with Espanyol, his former club. With international experience under his belt, he joined the ISL in July 2017. In the two seasons Coro has played, he has been the top scorer in both. In the 2017-18 season, he netted the ball 18 times. The following year was no different with him finding the back of the net 16 times, the highest for any player this year as well.

FC Goa would be looking to improve their performance from last year by a notch, which would mean winning the ISL trophy and it doesn’t look like a distant dream with the squad they have. They will only be hoping that Coro continues his unbelievable form this year as well.

Roy Krishna

Each season, ISL clubs surprise football fans and followers from India with superstar signings and associations. This year was no different. ATK fans were treated to the news that Roy Krishna had signed for them for the 2019-20 season of the ISL. His partnership with Edu Garcia is highly anticipated and will possibly result in exhilarating matches this season.

Krishna has previously proved his mettle in the A-League, where he slowly and steadily transformed into a goal-scoring machine for the Wellington Phoenix. He also captains his national side, Fiji for international matches.

Ogbeche has had a long history with clubs, having played for more than 10 clubs in his career. PSG, Bastia, Metz and Middlesbrough are just some of the clubs this forward has been a part of.

Ogbeche played for NorthEast United in the ISL for the 2018-19 season of the league and was the top-scorer for his side with an impressive 12 goals. He along with Borges and Gallego helped the club reach the semi-finals, the best performance of the club so far in the ISL.

Asamoah Gyan

After a successful 2018-19 season, NorthEast United lost Ogbeche as well as Borges in the transfer window. However, the club managed to pull off a major swoop, roping in Asamoah Gyan, the celebrated Ghanian striker. Gyan has played for several note-worthy clubs, Sunderland being one of them. He has represented his country in 4 FIFA World Cups and is the most capped player of Ghana. He is also the record goal-scorer for his country.
